Meaning: To be in a desperate situation where there is little to no chance of success, but a person will try anyway.
うまくいくチャンスが全然ない、絶体絶命な状況でも、人は助けを求めて何かを試そうとする。
How to use: Tim lost most of his money at the horse races. He became a drowning man that would clutch at straws and betted away his last bit of money.
ティムは競馬でほとんどの金をすってしまった。彼は、溺れる者は藁をもつかむ感じで、残りのわずかな金を賭けに使った。
